It’s that time of year again! If you are or if you know a student heading back to college this year, here are some insurance tips for college students:
  • If you are renting a property off campus, consider purchasing a renters insurance policy to protect your personal items in the event that they are damaged or stolen. Most renters insurance policies also provide liability coverage, which can offer legal and financial protection in case someone is injured or has their property damaged in your residence.
  • Create an inventory of all your possessions and valuable items. If theft, loss, or damage occurs, an up-to-date list of your property will make it easier to file an insurance claim or a report with police and to have your property returned or replaced.
  • Having a bicycle on campus is yet another reason to consider purchasing a renters insurance policy. If that bike is stolen, it should be covered under your renters insurance policy.
  • Getting good grades can positively impact you or your parents’ auto insurance. Check with a member of the Marshfield Insurance team to see if you qualify for a “Good Student Discount” or another discount.
As always, contact a friendly member of the Marshfield Insurance team if you have any questions! We wish you the best school year ever! Information here adapted from Western National Insurance.
